It all started in 2009. After leaving London and the position as Head of Buying for House of Fraser, Maria Guy returned to the Isle of Wight. She was at a crossroads in her life, not quite sure what she wanted to do, but her love of fashion won, and Mia was created. She wanted to create a stunning boutique which offered stylish, ageless, affordable clothing in a unique setting. Mia wanted to offer clothing that made women look and feel good effortlessly, regardless of age – because age is just a number! Mia used all her years of experience in retailing to create the first shop in Ryde. She wanted it to be personal, inviting and importantly relaxing, a place where you could feel confident regardless of age or size, a place where you wanted to linger and shop or just have a chat!
Going from strength to strength
It worked! Mia built up a strong loyal customer base both locally and from the mainland, so in 2014 a second shop opened in Newport. To avoid splitting their strong customer base, they decided to offer slightly different styles and colours in Newport, so customers would shop in both stores! It was a success and in 2017 the opportunity arose to open another Mia store this time in Cowes – it worked! Mia has been asked many times, mostly by their mainland customers, ‘why don’t you go on-line?’ Mia’s response was always the same, that she was dedicated to ensuring that our retail customers continued to receive the best retail experience! However, the world has changed recently and in particular the way everyone shops. So, that is why they have launched Mia on-line, they want to make the on-line experience to be just as personal as it is in-store.
