Born on the Isle of Wight, James grew up in Yarmouth sculling around the harbour, sailing Scows on the River Yar and spending long summer days at Compton Bay playing in the surf. He studied at Bournemouth College of Art and then London College of Printing where he graduated with a BA Hons degree in Graphic Communication. Living and working in London as a graphic designer for over 10 years, he then headed back to the Island to continue working in design, illustration and photography.
Recently, he has moved away from illustrative prints and concentrated on original work based around abstracted land and seascapes, shapes and colour.
Love of the water runs deep and he gets much of his inspiration sailing X Boats or paddling out to catch a few waves at his home at Compton or second home in South Devon.
