In the Litfest Marquee

The Isle of Wight: Women, History, Books and Places is sixth in my series ‘Of Islands and Women’. I have tended to write the other volumes chronologically; but, from the start, this volume had a mind of its own: it decided it should be written thematically. Hence, chapter 10 is called ‘Women Writers’. But it was not written after chapter 9, ‘Women Artists’; it was written last of all. That is because of the hoops that presented themselves for navigation. The chapter was too difficult, until I had to bite the bullet. And that is what I plan to talk about.
