This year’s Royal Isle of Wight County Show – taking place over the weekend of July 12 and 13 – is not only a celebration of Island rural life, but also a unique opportunity to meet the people behind the products, animals and innovations.
From farmers and artists to food producers and crafters, the show is packed with opportunities to chat directly to the experts. At the heart of the event is the show
farm, where you can meet livestock, learn how they’re raised, and even “ask a farmer” in the dedicated livestock area. The ‘Farming Through the Ages’ demonstration, in the main ring, will take visitors on a fascinating journey through 200 years of farming, from the days of horse-power to the cutting-edge technology of today.
In the canine area, specialists will be on hand to talk about dog care, training and working breeds, while Briddlesford Farm offers the chance to learn more about dairy farming and animal welfare – and teach you how to milk a cow. Nearby in the woodland and vintage demonstration area, Talc Johnson will be showcasing his lovingly restored working thresher. Island food and drink producers will be out in force – many proudly displaying the Wight Marque – offering tastings and sharing the stories behind their award-winning produce. Over in the craft area, Island artists and crafters will be available to talk about their work, techniques and inspirations.
You can get an early bird ticket discount until July 11. Under-16s are free with a paying adult, and an adult day ticket is £12.50 instead of £15. The weekend ticket is even better value – just £17; save £6 on the full price of £23. Go to iwcountyshow.co.uk to book your tickets now.
Whether you’re curious about traditional skills, how farmers use technology, or just want to enjoy a right royal day out, the County Show is full of expert insight – and lots of family fun.
Saturday from 10am to 5pm, Sunday from 9.30am to 4.00pm . For tickets and info go to iwcountyshow.co.uk.
Everyone welcome.
