Ian Wright

Ian Wright is an amateur artist from the Isle of Wight, painting essentially for pleasure. He paints mainly in oils and acrylics, but also enjoys watercolour and pastel. Colour, composition and a personal interest in the subject are the key inspirations for his paintings. This may be a seascape, woodland scene, boating, people and even steam trains!

Ian lives in Cowes. For 40 years he worked in Engineering, largely in the Aerospace sector, before deciding to retire. Although he studied art at school, during his working life he found the lack of time and inspiration effectively prevented him from pursuing painting as a hobby, which undoubtedly required a different mind-set. Painting was definitely on the back-burner! Retirement opened up that opportunity for him to explore his painting. The turning point was a visit to an Open Studios exhibition in Gurnard, which sparked his desire to develop his latent skills.

Ian subsequently joined Cowes Art Group in 2013 and the Isle of Wight Art Club (IWAC) in 2014, (where he was past chairman) and is still an active member of both clubs, exhibiting several times a year. At IWAC he practices live portrait painting in the winter and looks forward to getting out around the Island, en plein air, during the summer.

Ian has exhibited with the Isle of Wight Open Studios for several years and is pleased to meet the public during these days. Painting is now a large part of his life, so there’s no looking back!

Many of Ian’s paintings are available as prints and cards too, both professionally produced.
